How do you rank on Google?

One of the most common questions I get asked by clients is "Can you get me onto page one of Google?"

My answer is usually ... "very probably."

However, this is always tempered with "but it depends on who your target audience is, if you are looking at a local or national market, how much competition there is, and how much you wish to spend on getting there."

It is rare that a client is offering a unique service so inevitably competition on the web will be fierce. But, for businesses looking for local customers, with a well-designed and well-thought out website it is possible to achieve good rankings without buying into a search engine optimisation (SEO) package.

But we haven't just optimised our own website. Every site we work on is built with the search engines in mind .
